This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED courses. In order to participate in this course, you must possess a current basic-level American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED certification including hands-on training (online-only certificates cannot be accepted) or equivalent and be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course.

Upon registration, it is important that you review and follow the directions in the e-mail attachment sent with your registration confirmation. This is a blended learning course consisting of online content, a pre-course skill session and classroom segment. Online material must be completed prior to attending the classroom activities.

Course Description: The 2021 Basic Life Support (BLS) course equips participants with the skills to manage breathing and cardiac emergencies for adult, child, and infant patients. It follows the American Red Cross Focused Updates and Guidelines 2021 and is designed to meet certification and licensing requirements.

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device

HeartCode BLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. 

After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. 

**Please note, the Heartcode Blended course is an accelerated BLS course designed for healthcare providers needing to renew their BLS. If this is your first time taking a BLS course, it is suggested to complete the AHA’s BLS Provider Course which provides a better education experience for the first time BLS student.**

Designed for those who are at risk for on the job exposure to blood and other bodily fluids in the workplace. The course teaches staff how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to avoid exposure and what to do if exposed to infectious material. This course is one of the requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.

After taking this course, students should talk with their employer about their workplaces specific policies and procedures.

Those who complete the training receive a Bloodborne Pathogens Training certification valid for one year.

American Red Cross first aid training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults and children during many emergency situations.

Once the online portion of training is complete, the ARC First Aid Blended Virtual* course is a 1 hour and 15 minute training.  Your instructor will meet with you via zoom to conduct the skills portion of training.

The 2021 Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED blended learning course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA, workplace or other regulatory requirements. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile, desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the Instructor-led skills session. Upon successful completion, a valid 2 year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is issued.

The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion and must be taken on a Flash-enabled PC with a high speed Internet connection. Allow 3 hours 50 minutes to complete the online portion of First Aid/CPR/AED training.  N O T E: A VALID EMAIL IS REQUIRED FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION WITH HYPERLINKS TO DO THE ONLINE PORTION OF THE CLASS AND FOR YOUR DIGITAL CERTIFICATION. Please dress comfortable as skills are performed on the floor.
